The Mallyan Spout Hotel
The Mallyan Spout Hotel is located in Goathland near Whitby. This well established 3 star country house hotel is an idyllic setting for your wedding day with rolling views of the North York Moors, beautifully maintained and manicured gardens and the most dedicated wedding team.
The hotel is fully licenced for weddings and civil ceremonies and offers a choice of two rooms depending on the size of your wedding party.
Every bedroom in the hotel is unique and the perfect place for a sleepover with your bridesmaids the night before your wedding day. With an extensive menu to choose from using many local suppliers an evening meal with your bridesmaids is the perfect way to start your wedding celebrations.
The Mallyan Spout Hotel takes it’s name from the 70ft waterfall that sits a short walk away from the building and due to it’s location a lot of the bedrooms offer views that stretch across the Esk Valley. The moors are awash with purple heather in the late summer months offering fabulous Wuthering Heights style wedding photos. The village of Goathland itself is renown for it’s open greens which are home to local sheep. The village has it’s own train station used in the Harry Potter films and, of course, was also home to the famous characters of Heartbeat.
Your wedding day
I will join you for your wedding prep photos 2 hours before your ceremony. These candid photos are taken in a very relaxed and unobtrusive manner and are photos I would really encourage you to have. Your dress, shoes and jewellery make beautiful vignettes for the early pages of your wedding album. Photos of the excitement as you spend this time with your bridal team, giggling, clinking glasses of prosecco, giving gifts. If you are both getting ready in the hotel I can quite easily photograph both of your preps or you can add a second photographer to your package.
Your ceremony room is being prepared as you are getting ready. This neutrally decorated room looks perfect as is or it can be decorated in your chosen theme or colour to make your wedding day uniquely you. Comfy chairs for your wedding guests and a perfect aisle length, not too short and not too long. The windows overlook the beautiful gardens and light floods in no matter the season.
I’ll make my way to your ceremony room and photograph both this and your guests arriving. Your partner may already be be there welcoming your guests.
I photograph your wedding ceremony from the top of the aisle and I’ll have positioned your partner so I can hopefully catch the first look from you both as you see each other for the first time today.
Mallyan Spout Wedding photography
I’m very unobtrusive when photographing your wedding ceremony. This time is the very heart of your day and shouldn’t be interrupted by flashes firing and walking around. Experience has taught me where to be and at what time to ensure I get photographs of your vows. Also your ring exchange and the all important first kiss. The registrars will set up a mock signing photo for you. Your guests will also love to get this photo and will be invited to do so if you wish.
Unplugged ceremonies became very popular around 5 years ago and are actually a really great thing. I would encourage your guests to take lots of photos during the day. However the ceremony is a time for them to give you their full attention. You want to see their faces as you traverse the aisle not the back of their phones. Please do give this some thought.
You will have a much needed welcome drink waiting for you both. This is a great time to do your family and group photos and the all important confetti tunnel. The gardens at the Mallyan Spout are the perfect backdrop for these photos. Your guests can enjoy a drink on the outdoor seating while we do them.
Before your wedding day I’ll have sent you a wedding questionnaire. Here’s the place to write down any photos you would like but in particular family and friends groups. I will ask a bridesmaid or groomsman to assist in gathering the groups so these will be taken quickly and efficiently. Neither yourselves or your guests want to be standing around for great lengths of time.
Wedding couple shoot
As the hotel prepare your room for the wedding breakfast and your guests are enjoying the gardens and socialising this is a great time to have some photos of you both. You may want to make use of the terrific gardens. Perhaps walk into the village or head down to the train station If you want to we can jump in my car and head up onto the moors. The choices for your wedding photos are endless.
We can spend as much or as little time doing these as you’d like. Most couples comment afterwards that they loved this little bit of time alone together and were really happy they’d done it.
Your ceremony room will have been transformed. Your cake is in place and all these smaller details that you poured your heart into choosing will be laid out on tables to welcome your guests. These fabulous little touches are what make your day uniquely you.
With your guests taking their place for the wedding breakfast you’ll be announced into the room to rapturous applause and shouts of congratulations. Many couples prefer to have their wedding speeches first. People not used to public speaking are often nervous. This means it’s a good idea to do them and then they can relax and enjoy their meal.
If you’d like some night time photos we can do this now. You might enjoy a bit of fresh air and to walk off your wedding meal. This will prepare you nicely for the dance floor.
First we need to cut the wedding cake. Guests will grab their phones and love this photo opportunity. Then you can make your way to the dance floor for your first dance together as a married couple.
I do like to stay a bit later so encourage your guests to join you on the dance floor. This means I can take photographs of all the action.
My full day packages all include either a photobook or wedding album. I’m a firm believer in printing your memories and this is a family heirloom to pass down. A record of those who shared your wedding day. Luckily I am local to The Mallyan Spout Hotel. As a result I have fabulous knowledge of the surrounding area.
