22 FAQ’s for a North Yorkshire Wedding Photographer

FAQ’s for a North Yorkshire Wedding Photographer. You will have received lots of advice as soon as you started planning your wedding day. Some of it will be useful, some won’t. Either way you will probably end up with more questions than answers. My advice (because I’m sure you want even more) is to speak to each supplier individually. We are all experts in our own field. For example I don’t know how long a makeup trial takes or how you make a 4 tier cake without it falling over. However I can answer your wedding photography questions. So, here is a list (and hopefully some useful answers) of my most frequently asked questions.

Is my date available ?– Couples tend to book me from around 18 months to 2 years before their wedding day. I take bookings up to 3 years in advance. I have a contact form on my website but am happy to answer enquiries on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, text message etc. My number is on my website and I welcome an informal chat about the plans you have for your day. I always answer enquiries within 24 hrs so don’t forget to check that ever annoying junk folder !

Will you be shooting my wedding ?– Yes, I don’t use an associate photographer unless I am in absolute dire need……. leading on to…….

What happens if you’re ill ? – I belong to a group of hugely talented photographers. We actually set this up during Covid so we could call upon each other if needed. We have kept this group going and they are my port of call should the unthinkable happen.

How long have you been a photographer ? – I photographed my first wedding in 2016 and have been a full time wedding photographer since 2019.

What is your photography style ? – I blend candid documentary coverage with gently guided portraits. My aim is to capture real moments, genuine emotion, and beautiful details while keeping the experience relaxed and natural.

Can I see some of your weddings at my venue ? – Yes, if you click onto Client Galleries at the top of my home page you can see galleries from all of my recent weddings. If I haven’t shot your venue before , don’t worry. I visit the venue before your wedding and am even happy to do a pre-wedding photoshoot with you.

What is your photography style ? – Photographers love to describe themselves using word like photojournalistic or editorial. So what am I ?. Well I’m very much a candid photographer who likes to record the day as it happens. I would greatly encourage you to have family and group photos. I do these quickly and efficiently with minimal disruption to your day. Also I  like to sneak you away for a short while for some gently posed portraits photos. Don’t think of this part as a photo session to get nervous about. I promise you’ll love this little bit of time to yourselves To look at each other, smile and say, yay, we did it, we got married !

What packages do you offer ? I have 4 main packages that cover the full day from bride or groom preps through to your first dance. They all include a gallery of your wedding photos. These are fully edited by me and there for you to download, print and share as you wish. The only thing you need to think about is which keepsake you’d like. Starting from a 40 page wedding album or a more luxurious coffee table album with matching album box. All albums can be upgraded with photos on the front, your names or date and I also provide matching parent albums if required. I’m happy to quote for a bespoke package if the ones I have don’t quite suit your needs and I also offer micro and half days.

How long do you stay ? – My Digital, Printed and Complete Story packages include 9-10 hours of wedding day coverage. My Signature Story is 12 hours. If you need extra time, you can add hours to any package.

How many photos will we get ? – I typically deliver around 1000 photos for a full day. Each one is edited by myself I don’t use AI to cull or edit wedding photos. I’ve used my creativity and intuition to photograph your day and only I will know the emotion that was there at that moment in time, I want to ensure your images look natural, meaningful, and truly personal.

Do we have to pay a deposit ? – I ask for a £200 deposit to secure your date meaning I won’t take any other bookings for that date. This amount will be taken off your balance, which will be due 2 weeks before your wedding day.

Do you offer retouching or corrective services ? –  Your photos are edited in my style which you can see in my galleries. I will remove gravy from your dress and spinach from your teeth. But change your body shape? nope, because you’re perfect just the way you are.

What cameras do you use ? – I carry 4 professional camera bodies with me to every wedding. Also my 2 main lenses, backups for each of those lenses and 3 other lenses that I use for different parts of your day. My cameras record every photograph to 2 different memory cards. I can’t emphasise enough how important it is that your photographers cameras do this. Cards do fail and I speak from experience here so they must have a backup.

Can I order prints from you ? – Yes, you can order prints, wall art and additional albums directly from your own gallery. As can your family and friends.

When do I get my photos ? – I edit around 50 photos when I get home from your wedding and these are shared on social media for you the next morning. You do, of course, have a right to privacy and there is an opt out section on the contract if you don’t wish me to share your photos. Your full gallery will be ready and delivered around 4 weeks after your wedding day.

What do you wear ? – Smart clothes. Usually trousers top and boots in the winter, possibly a dress in summer with sandals. Smart but comfortable, you may see me change into trainers later on in the day.

Do we get the RAWS/negatives ?No, they’re huge files that take up a phenomenal amount of computer space. I keep several backups of your wedding photos so you really don’t need them.

How long will I be able to access my photos for ? – I keep your photos in your online gallery for 1 year.

Are you insured ?Yes, and this is another very important question to ask whoever your photographer may be. My insurance protects myself and more importantly you, your guests and your precious photographs. Many wedding venues now won’t allow a photographer who isn’t insured, because it’s that important.

How do we book ? – Once we’ve checked I have your date available and we think we’re a good fit I send a booking form and contract for you. At the same time your date will be pencilled into my diary. Once your deposit is received your date is then a confirmed booking. We can have a meeting on zoom nearer the time or if you’ve booked a pre-wedding shoot we will see each other then. I attend wedding fairs regularly and am always available on the phone. I will send a wedding questionnaire out for you a month before your wedding day for you to confirm times, address of preps etc and for you to jot down any photos you would like but in particular family and friend groupings.

I’m nervous in front of the camera ?  I’ve got to be honest, most people are. If you read my reviews you will see how comfortable I can make you feel and I pride myself on my ability to do this. I will never say “stand there look at me and smile”. I have a few little tricks to settle any nerves straight away. A lot of my couples tell me they forgot I was there. That’s exactly as it should be.

So many photographers, why should we choose you ? – You shouldn’t necessarily. You firstly need to look at a photographers work. Can you see yourself in those photos and do you like the way the edited photos look ?. If you answered yes to both of these questions then go one step further. Read reviews and enquire about your date. Did you receive a quick response (ie within 24hrs) and was the response personal and interested in you. You will know very quickly by the response if you think this photographer will fit into your day.

Can you do a bespoke package ? – Yes, I cater for small weddings and have photographed secret weddings with just a bride and groom. I’ve also been asked to act as a witness quite a few times. I offer a half day package to which you can add an album if you wish.

Do you work alone ? – Most weddings don’t require an additional photographer. However if you both want preparation photos it’s a great idea. Also if you would like different angles of your ceremony and someone on hand to photograph guests whilst you’re away having photos taken. A second shooter can be added to any package and is included in the Signature Story Package.

Can my guests take photos ? Absolutely. The more photos you have of your wedding day the better. Unplugged weddings became a big thing around 2016/17 when couples became tired of seeing the back of mobile phones instead of the faces of the people they’d invited. So my advice would be to speak to the officiant and ask them to say no photos during the ceremony but after that, snap away.

Hopefully that’s answered a few of the questions you may have but don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any more.

Thankyou for reading.
