Danby Castle wedding day
Saturday the 29th May 2021. A date written on my calendar a long time ago. It was a Danby Castle Wedding and also my first full day wedding for 16 months. You can’t imagine how delighted I was and how much I’d been looking forward to it.
Hannah and #teambride were having their bridal preps at Gisborough Hall . I arrived bright and early on a glorious sunny morning.
Entering a very busy and happy room with makeup and hair in full swing, champagne and a brilliant playlist booming out of a speaker.
Grace Lydia had been chosen for the makeup and as we’ve worked together before it was lovely to catch up after so long. I very much enjoyed meeting and watching Kerry wedding Hair as she worked her magic on the girls.
Jo from Sophia Jo Bridal arrived to do a last minute steam of the gown before helping Hannah and the bridesmaids into their dresses.
#teamgroom were getting ready just around the corner so my second shooter was photographing them as they tied each others ties, fastened cuff links, and watched video’s of how to fold a pocket square. Youtube to the rescue once again !
With everyone ready back at Gisborough Hall it was time to let Dad in for his first look at his daughter in her wedding gown. Much needed tissues on hand this was such a very special moment to witness. Hannahs Dad was bursting with pride.
As I head off for the ceremony I leave the family to take a last minute breather before the wedding commences.
Arriving at Danby Castle it was amazing to see how much work Phil and Carolyn have done since my last visit. The castle and it’s grounds look truly stunning with so many changes, new signage and plants. It looks truly wonderful.
With Hannah’s arrival imminent just time to grab the boys for a few quick photos before they were off to see the registrars.
With the groom and guests sequestered in a closed room Hannah’s arrival in a beautiful pearl Mercedes, was flawlessly timed. I enjoy the tradition of not seeing each other before the wedding and the team at Danby Castle planned it perfectly.
The ceremony room really suits the cream and green colours provided by Sam at Sheer Elegance.
A nervous wait at the altar and then the door opens for a team of bridesmaids to make their entrance before the bride and her father.
Jayke did a great job of keeping his emotions in tact but later admitted in his speech to nearly loosing it.
The hugest of congratulations to you both, a wonderful, moving ceremony.
After a drinks reception and giving Hannah & Jayke five minutes to themselves, we set up a confetti tunnel in the grounds of the Castle. I always say to couples at this point, eyes open, mouths shut, keep smiling. I always say to the guests throw it in the air and not in their faces. I’m always ignored which makes for very funny photos which I love !
After some family photos I take Hannah, Jayke and the bridal party into the ruins for some special photos. Danby Castle provides a stunning backdrop for wedding photographs. The couple felt no need to go elsewhere, being more than happy to remain at the venue throughout the day.
With 15 minutes to go before the wedding breakfast I just have time to photograph the room. The candles, flowers and greenery were thanks to the very talented Ginger & Flynn. I love the idea of greenery and succulents on the tables, it looks really elegant.
The wedding party enjoyed Danby Castle’s famous pies and a trio of desserts.
I’m a huge fan of wedding speeches and very much enjoy listening to them whilst taking photographs. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone targeted quite so much as Jayke (and his anatomy) but he took it well.
After a beautiful meal, a treat in the way of some trickery by the very best magician Mark Waddington. I’ve known Mark for quite a while now and he never disappoints. Hilariously funny and very quick witted he even had one of the guests falling off the bench. (it could have been the wine but I’m sure it was laughing at Mark that did it). To retain her dignity for those that missed it, Sue shall remain nameless.
…..and this cake, how amazing is this donut cake from Sweet chic ! Hannah & Jayke didn’t hesitate to grab a quick bite once the ceremonial sword has done it’s work.
As the sun lowers in the sky the guests move around to the courtyard. Here tables are set up for them to enjoy the first dance. This would usually take place inside so the location outside made it even more special. The Superlicks start the evening celebrations. The warm summer sun provides it’s very own spotlight for the couple. They enjoy their first dance as husband and wife.
